Co-creating transformative climate resilience with artists

One Resilient Earth

How can we work with the arts and artists to build common grounds for transformative climate resilience? What can we learn from 4 years of activities carried out worldwide by One Resilient Earth?

‘Transformative climate resilience’ is both a complex topic debated by highly trained scientists, and an urgent need that requires wide societal engagement.  Over the past 4 years, One Resilient Earth, a non-profit organization based in Berlin, has worked with the arts and artists so that young people, sustainability professionals and communities at risk would better grasp the challenge of fostering transformative climate resilience, and would engage in addressing the root causes of climate vulnerability in creative ways.

A short 20-minute talk by Laureline Simon, Founder of One Resilient Earth, will introduce how our work with the arts and artists has helped make the science behind transformative approaches to climate resilience more accessible to various audiences. The talk will then dive into the role that the arts and artists can play in fostering both inner change and cultural shifts that are essential to fostering a systemic transformation towards climate resilient societies. Through illustrated examples from past projects from around the world, we will highlight the benefits of weaving together various artistic practices and climate science in fostering engagement among individuals, organizations and communities. We will also share the difficulties we encountered. Last, based on our experience working with large music festivals, we will question the various ways in which the arts can act as a catalyst for the wide societal transformation called for by the scientific community.

Following the presentation, we will have a Q/A session, and open the floor to further exploring all that can go right or wrong in weaving together the arts and science so as to build common grounds for transformative climate resilience.
