ETH Zürich

Nature's Silent Dialogue: Unraveling the Hidden Networks of Communication in the Natural World and Beyond

From the intricate networks of roots entwined beneath the soil to the subtle chemical signals exchanged among mammals and insects, nature orchestrates a symphony of interaction. This silent dialogue, often overlooked, reveals a profound interconnectedness, challenging conventional notions of communication. Through observing these subtle exchanges, one begins to grasp the profound depths of communication in the natural world, sparking a reevaluation of our understanding of connectivity and intelligence beyond the spoken word.

This event is part of ETH Zurich’s RETHINKING LIVING campaign. We are all feeling massive change across just about every aspect of our lives. Climate change, the destruction of biodiversity and technological disruptions present threats, but more importantly, an opportunity to focus on grand challenges, to embrace deeper meaning, and to rediscover overlooked aspects of our lives. RETHINKING LIVING convenes scientists, industry experts and outstanding global thinkers from ETH Zurich and across the world.
