This interdisciplinary panel will explor the intersection of art and science in the examination of neurodiversity and identity through the innovative project "Unmasking." Led by Simon Guendelman (psychiatrist and researcher), Muriel Gallardo Weinstein (interdisciplinary artist), and Nicole Loeser (curator and researcher), the discussion will focus on how scientific research and artistic practice can collaboratively uncover the intricate emotional and cognitive landscapes within the autism spectrum. Curator Nicole Loeser will also provide an introduction to her work at the Institute for Art and Innovation (IFAI). She will present their ongoing interdisciplinary project, in which she, Muriel, and Simon are conceptualizing an exhibition and symposium for 2025, focusing on the theme "Extensions of the Self." This future project aims to explore identity through the lenses of neuroscience, art, and social innovation. They will explore how art can make scientific concepts more accessible to broader audiences and how artistic mediums can foster deeper engagement with neurodiverse experiences.
