Addressing Global Tipping Points Together. Meeting the Frontiers Planet Prize Global Champions

Join us for discussing collaborative global action to prevent crossing irreversible global tipping points and how a sustainable future for the planet can be achieved.

Join us at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities for an event showcasing two of the three 2024 Frontiers Planet Prize Global Champions, Peter Haase and Pedro Jaureguiberry, whose groundbreaking research offers new perspectives on how humanity can navigate and stay within the safe boundaries of Earth's global ecology. Together with our guests and the audience, we want to reflect on what concrete and realistic steps can be taken to contribute to the goal of preserving a habitable planet.

As the world faces growing ecological challenges, from climate change to biodiversity loss, the precise understanding of global tipping points has become ever more urgent. Crossing critical thresholds may lead to irreversible environmental damage. How can we work together to avoid crossing them? Haase and Jaureguiberry will present their award-winning research, exploring innovative solutions and global strategies to ensure a sustainable future.

After the presentations by the two researchers, there will be a panel discussion and a Q&A, moderated by Christoph Markschies, President of the Academy. A greeting will be spoken by Jean-Claude Burgelman, Director at the Frontiers Planet Prize.

The Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities is the German National Representative Body for the Frontiers Planet Prize. In a highly competitive process, it selects the three German candidates for becoming Global Champion of the Frontiers Planet Prize. Every year, three researchers are recognised as Global Champions, winning 1 million CHF for their research.
