Eleanor Percy-Rouhaud is a master's student at the University of Leipzig who is writing her thesis in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Geochemistry. She is particularly interested in oceanography and marine science.

Using coral samples to recreate 6000 years of climate history

For most of human history, the ocean and everything it holds was inaccessible to the rigours of science. It’s an underresearched area that offers diverse study opportunities. Corals are similar to tree rings in terms of what you can tell of the conditions each year, and the chemical composition offers additional insight to the historical climate, which remains untouched by human hands (unlike trees!).
